The city of Exeter itself has much tradition behind it. One can still see in it surviving portions of the Roman wall, and the ruins of Rougemont Castle. A pleasing tandem of new and old, the town centre is a sprawling scene of beautiful buildings and wide spaces. The cathedral dates from 1050, when the seat of the bishop of Devon and Cornwall was transferred from Crediton. From Exeter you can visit the north and south coastlines; and also Dartmoor and Exmoor. Exeter is a great place to hold your festivities; it has bus and motorway links, a great train, and its own airport.
